On our coexistence with horses and longing for the countryside as a refuge, photographed by Ambra Crociani, with styling by Naomi Miller and cast by Pina Marlene.

Opening Essay

Louise Bourgeois said, "Art is restoration: the idea is to repair the damages that are inflicted in life, to make something that is fragmented — which is what fear and anxiety do to a person — into something whole."

There has long been a cultural contemplation on the role of art and what we are meant to do with it. How we must consume? If we must consume? What duty does it have, if any at all? What constitutes an art form? And who decides. Who then, is an artist? Does it matter? And if so, to whom?

This however, is not a contemplation, but a symposium. Through the lens of varied disciplines and its practitioners, we use art as a tool of memory, and a redemption song, for the beauty that persists among societal change.

This inaugural issue captures the spirit of ‘The Renaissance’ in works depicting classical influences, using nostalgia as a vehicle to reckon with the uncertainties of the present day.
